Food for thought (and consumption)

One way to preserve your fruits/vegetables in the refrigerator longer is to store them in a cloth bag instead of a sealed plastic bag. They can be used dry for purchasing your items at the store or market and for storing dry fruits, like apples, and you can store misted vegetables, like greens, placed in the dry bag in your refrigerator crisper drawer. Some organic cloth bags from Amazon available here: http://amzn.to/16nrv8n

mmmmmm - Ice Cream

How about enjoying some fun summer treats that are more earth friendly than most "treats". Some of the ice cream ingredients are Fair trade, organic or non-GMO (genetically modified organisms). Two brands, So Delicious and Ben and Jerry's, are even fairly common in stores. http://www.sierraclub.org/sierra/201107/enjoy-icecream.aspx

Fishy decisions

Whole Foods has recently decided to label their products with the color-coded sustainability ratings of the Blue Ocean Institute or the Monterey Bay Aquarium. This is a great step forward, but please avoid the red labeled fish as it is presently caught in ways that harm other marine life or the environment.
