buy local and fresh

Buying your fruits and vegetables (and nuts and honey, etc.) from your local farmer's market is a great way to get healthy food, support family farms and the local economy (many fruits and veggies, even organic ones, come from other countries or thousands of miles away). In 2010, the twelve fruits and vegetables that had the highest pesticide levels—even after peeling and washing included celery, peaches, strawberries, apples, blueberries, nectarines, bell peppers, spinach, kale, cherries, potatoes, and imported grapes. Buying organic versions of this produce is safer for you and the environment.
